Busy off and on today so got no writing done. *sigh* Nor did I get Gotham watched which I did the naughty on in the hopes that other attorney would be gone over lunch like boss, but no such luck.
The happy for today is that dad is not diabetic. His blood sugar was 115 and the doctor that agreed that long time steroid use, even at his tiny dosage (5mg every other day--I'm currently on 20mg a day) could raise it to that level which is high normal (and he fasted before his blood test, too, though I've found that my finger stick levels are often higher when I haven't eaten for some reason; which is why I go more by my A1C and I don't know why, when they were checking his blood for other stuff, they didn't run that). Anyone, his foot neuropothy is probably caused by a combo of weight and poor circulation which he's had all his life and I inherited which is why I'm cold all the time (so having anemia on top of it didn't help me last winter). Mom's going to try to get him to lose weight and buy him loose socks. No pills or anything yet and nothing severe. His cholesterol was a bit high but nothing really bad, which considering how much fried crap and red meat he eats is amazing. Personally I think cutting back on his salt intake would help his feet, too--if they're swelling and making his socks and shoes too tight, that has to be aiding the nerve tingling, I'd think.
Anyway, so yay. One less thing to worry about with my parents' health.
I got to my meeting tonight before anyone else but our minister and she asked me how I was doing--last meeting was day one of the stomach flu--so we got to talking and I mentioned the steroids = desire to clean/organize and we both got a good laugh out of that. I mean, it really is ridiculous.
Like, I noticed when I got home that the handyman had started working so I took a quick spin through the back yard and noticed so many small twigs down and my plan for Saturday morning now is to spend an hour or so cleaning up twigs because why pay him to do that?
*sigh*
Dad had asked me to call and let him know if the guy started working so I did and I asked if I should order a dumpster from the city and he hemmed and hawed before finally agreeing--his excuses that they wouldn't bring it this weekend (duh) and that he should talk to the guy first (why?) were lame. See, I knew why because mom talked to our mutual pedicurist yesterday and shared with me later. Dad wanted to bring all the crappy lumber, railroad ties and rocks to their house.
Mom did NOT want that crap! lolol No one wants that crap.
I'm ordering the dumpster tomorrow. The guy can just stack stuff up until it gets there hopefully next week some time. Dad may be paying the guy but I'm paying for the dumpster as it'll just go on my water bill.
Our meeting/class was really good. I was nervous about verbal feedback--I do not handle even written constructive criticism well--but it went well and I got a lot of positive comments and very little 'you could do this a bit better this way'. It was only to be 200-300 words which is hard to do to get a point across and what they suggested could have been better, I agreed with. I really appreciated that they could see the picture I was painting with my words. While this wasn't fiction, it was very personal and evocative. If I have time tomorrow I'll type it up and post it. My fiction writing style is often very different from my sometimes too factual/not emotional enough sermons, but I think it came across with this.
And then I got home in time to see the Giants tie the Cardinals and now the Cardinals have loaded the bases in the top of the 9th with two outs.
So maybe there will be another game on Saturday. The less rest the NL team has, the better for KC!
Well, they left the bases loaded...
ETA: well that's over. Three run homer in the bottom of the 9th and the Giants win the Pennant. So, we'll be playing them--we swept them in the regular season.
