For three years my ice maker hasn't made ice. I've used the tray as storage. I've been waiting for another appliance to break down before calling the fix it guy but nothing has. It's fine, as the water in the door is ice cold and I can always buy bagged ice if I really want it. I figured the pipe was frozen.
Last night I put one of the loaves of bread in the empty tray. At one point I thought I heard something but then forgot about it.
This afternoon as I was standing right in front of it mixing up batter, it definitely made the 'making ice' noise.
I opened the door, stood on my toes (because I really am that short) and there was ice in the tray. I moved the bread, closed the door and hit the 'ice' button and an ice cube popped out.
All I can figure is that last week when I had the freezer open for about 15 minutes as I cleaned it out, it melted the frozen pipe. Condensation did form really quickly on boxes and the plastic sides/door. When I put the bread in last night I must have knocked down the metal bar to let it make ice.
Heh
