Let's see, got a lot done at work on Friday and got my challenge requirements finished and voted at Mating Games.
My first Mating Games ficlet didn't win, but, you get points for participating, and I like it, so... It's on AO3. I pretty much load everything there these days and haven't loaded any fics on DW in months. Though I did just finish updating the website and I've got all fics up through late Fall last year.
Friday night the Royals game was postponed due to rain so I baked cookies and scones. The gluten free peanut butter cookies are so damn temperamental. Having rained all day, the house was humid and the cookies turned more lacy than solid. Taste great, of course, but I knew as I was mixing them they were too oily and needed more sugar. I should have added some. Scones turned out lovely.
Saturday I watched some tv, read some fic, drafted the script (opening words, meditation etc.) and started the sermon. Got about half done and all the research done. Frankly, I spent more time trying to find the perfect readings before Marta tossed some at me that worked just great (her daughter read an excerpt from Matched by Ally Condie, which is on my Amazon wishlist).
Then I headed to church for the auction. This year we split the check-in lines into two--prepaid at one, new at another, and they'd really stressed pre-paying so I only had about half a dozen new people at my table. We also had a floater to cover so we could go bid in the silent auction, get food, buy raffle tickets. Last year there were just two of us doing it all and we never even got food because of the crush. This year there were five total.
I brought my dinner anyway, but had plenty of time to eat, before moving into the sanctuary for the main auction. Our treasurer ran all the credit cards and again Denise and I had another person to help so she kept track of all the bidding and I relayed info to Denise to enter into the computer. Worked SO much more smoothly.
The only thing I wanted in the live auction was this gorgeous black bowl but it went for over $300. I did win a vase I wanted, a handmade scarf and handmade purse in the silent auction and my stuff all went well. Everything sold which was nice. We had a much smaller crowd this year and a lot less items, especially in the silent auction, but the people who did come bid high. We made about $15,000. I remember when we started auctions about six or seven years ago we were lucky to make $3000!
Check out was still a bit chaotic but we only had a few problems (people writing the wrong paddle number on silent auction bids so they ended up on other people's print-outs) but nowhere near as badly as last year. We had winner slips from the silent auction to hand to people so they knew what to go pick up. Last year I had to furiously jot down the stuff for people.
Still, the auction ran about an hour longer than it was supposed to so I didn't get home till 10:45. This was due to them extending the silent auction which extended dinner so the main auction started late. It was a lot of fun, though. We made about $200 on booze alone--UUs drink like fishes. I drank nothing, being a good girl.
When I got home I watched the recorded Royals game (we won) and then collapsed and didn't sleep well.
I got up at 6:30 and got to work on the sermon and finished it by 8:00 so I could have slept another hour and still gotten it to mom in time for her to print it before she headed to church to help make coffee.
The service only had about forty people attend--very few people from last night--but I got several compliments. I thought the sermon turned out well, a nice mix of my personal views and reviews of spiritual YA novels, and returning to the theme of our young people developing their own spirituality several times. I read a piece from Neil Gaiman's blog for the meditation. :)
And we ended on time.
Came home and blew off the concert which was a good thing because I dosed in and out during the Royals 9-0 win. I woke up around 5:00 confused because a game was on and I knew it had ended but it was too light out to be 7:00 for the second game of the double header. They were replaying the first game and then didn't air the second one! So I put the sound on my computer and started loading fics and we lost anyway.
Boss is back tomorrow. *sigh* The boxes from Office Depot didn't arrive until nearly 4:00 on Friday so I have to put those together and load stuff into them. Right now the break room is full of piles of check stubs and invoices.
I get my new glasses on Tuesday after work. That'll be interesting. Am NOT driving on the highway to my parents that night, not with bifocals for the first time.
Oh, enjoyed the finale of Lost Girl, sad to have to wait for like eight months for its return. Also enjoyed who run Project Runway. Watched the second ep of Defiance and am still enjoying it. Julie Benz for the win. :) Now I need to watch TAR and OUAT which I was able to tape since there was no baseball on tv.
