Got a call from a client who has a native American tenant who is behind on rent. When she spoke to him last night about this debt, he told her that she couldn't sue him in US courts because he's a Native American and can only be sued in tribal courts and he's claiming sovereignity or something.
Apparently there are tribal leaders who tell their people that this is true. It's not. We've sued several people over the years of Native American ancestry--we have Haskell Indian Nations University here in town--and have never had an issue.
It's amusing how people try to twist the law sometimes.
In other news, Vampire Diaries rocked so completely last night. It's become my third favorite show after SPN and Fringe and is creeping up quickly on Fringe! I may have to dip my toe in fanfic.
I'm a Damon/Elena gal, btw, and have been since day one. Gimme those bad boys!!!
people are silly,
