Dear Yuletide Santa (2011)
Dear Yuletide Santa:
First, thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to write a story for me, and I know I will enjoy whatever you take the time and effort to create.
I love quirky stories with witty dialogue. Either slash or het is fine, although I don't necessarily prefer stories that are mainly vehicles for romantic situations. I think strong female agency, queer representation, and POC representation are all parts of a balanced (read: good) fic. All characters are created equal.
I love to laugh. I like to look at established stories in a different way, either by tweaking a detail to spin the universe out in a new direction or by telling the story from an overlooked perspective. Or both.
I like well-done crazy mad stories that just take something bizarre and run with it. Surrealism, when done well and with intelligent commentary, is completely awesome. And just because it's intelligent doesn't mean the abject avoidance of LOL-language or memelicious slang. You know, if that's appropriate.
In the realm of things I do not like: essentially, I do not like characters that don't act like themselves. I find it very difficult to suspend disbelief when the characters aren't acting or speaking like themselves.
Here are my requests again, possibly with further expansion:
The Sandman:
My favorite siblings of the Endless are Dream (Morpheus), Death, and Delirium, though I find something compelling about the entire family. Yes, even Despair. My favorite sorts of Sandman stories are the ones where the siblings are more fringe elements - sort of the tapestry upon which the story unfolds. I like them winding through, behind the scenes, calling in lines from the corners or traipsing through the story at just the right moment to tweak it a certain way, reveal a truth, or call the players home.
I should as well add that I love crossovers, and think they work particularly well where the Endless are involved. Should this strike your writer-fancy, here are some of my other favorite fandoms that might lend themselves well: Leverage, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Once Upon a Time, Eureka, Warehouse 13, Sealab 2021, Father Ted, and I should probably let this list stop now.
Honestly, though, if you look at my userinfo for my favorite fandoms... well, I would probably think an Endless crossover-fic with any of them would be pretty cool.
Community:
My favorite thing about Community is how meta it is - I love the self-conscious references to television conventions. What would a day in the life of the study group be like if Abed went on a TV Tropes bender? What would happen if the study group somehow got roped into doing some Community-version of a Yuletide exchange? (That could totally mean this Yuletide fic exchange if you want to get deliciously meta.)
What if alt!universe Evil Troy & Abed actually made it over to the main storyline?
Any story involving meta, Troy & Abed friendship, weird almost Britta/Troy moments, and all the characters being uniquely horrible in their hilarious ways would make me happy. Bonus points for Inspector Spacetime references!
Some of my favorite Community episodes have been "Remedial Chaos Theory," "Modern Warfare," and "Epidemiology," if that helps.
I also thought this past week's episode of "Documentary Filmmaking: Redux" was pretty cool.
Jameson Irish Whiskey (commercial)
Both the radio commercials and the television commercials for Jameson Irish Whiskey crack me right the hell up. I find the overblown hyperbole in these types of ads most appealing! Is there a female counterpart to John Jameson - what happens if he ever meets his match? Would John Jameson go adventuring with the Most Interesting Man in the World? Who knows?! I just want more of that sweet hyperbolic silliness. Have fun with this one!
Pushing Daisies
I love pretty much everyone in the Pushing Daisies universe, especially on the main cast. Emerson is the best, Olive is keen, and Ned is a neurotic delight. A winter-themed fic would be nice, and I would be especially delighted if you could include the voice of the Narrator. I'm also interested in Olive/Ned and a point in the storyline where that's a viable possibility. Before the show? After with some tweaking of canon? Whatever you like! Whimsy is key!
Dude, just a thought: Emerson/Olive "buddy cop" story? Who could resist? (I can't!)
