Garage phones. Garage has managed to track down a suitable automatic courtesy car for us to have until ours is fixed. "Woo-hoo!" thinks I. "We can drive to the New Year gathering after all, armed with all the required board games, beer and bean bags." Garage man turns up with car. Garage man hands over paperwork. I sign paperwork... and notice the ( Read more... )

The Car is now sorted out. Our existing insurance has been extended, like the wings of a guardian angel, to shelter the new car as it goes on the scary mainland.

The owner of the car did try to persuade me that driving more than half a mile in it would be something of an ordeal, it being tiny and pathetic. One suspects he worries about depreciation.

We may need to leave a beanbag or two behind.

Ooh, good! It is tiny and pathetic. I think two very small cats could fit into the back seats, but only just.

Oh. While I was writing that, the garage phoned me to reiterate that it must not, ever, ever, ever be taken onto the mainland. This is odd.

He also implied that the car would fall over and die with exhaustion if anyone tried to drive it more than about three miles.

It is a Nissan Micra 1.0 litre automatic, I understand.

An ideal car for the Island :-)

From what all these garagy people keep saying, you probably won't get to see it at all, since they imply that it won't manage more than about 4 miles an hour, and will conk out after ten miles.

If you do get to see it, it is a Nissan Micra.

You know, whenever we see one of those, we still point incredulously at it, and chorus, "That car's got 3 wheels!" in honour of you. ;-)

We (well, you know, my dad) used to have one of those. Someone once drove into it and kind of broke a bit of the front wing, which Daddy first stuck together with sticky tape, then with metal staples, before finally getting round to fixing it properly with fibreglass. It drive around like that perfectly well ;-)

The most difficult drive was one Christmas morning on the way to my grandparents, when it was snowing quite heavily. As few other cars had been that way before us, they had not cleared the carriageway, only made two parallel lines in the snow. The back wheels happily went along in these, but the front wheel had to plough through the uncleared snow, bumping the whole front of the car up and down quite alarmingly!
