Something I want to try and do every week is to post updates on art I'm working on including personal pieces and commissions. I just really really need something that gets me in the habit of updating regulary.
So here's the art I completed last week, mostly commission work but I've also been starting on a few new reference sheets for my own characters.
These are both from about 2-3 weeks ago when I decided to create a more 'humanoid' character to practice drawing human faces. The result was Vicktor a rather hellish Jackalope who creates nightmares for the hell of it and is stuck in mid Victorian fashion.
I've paused this project for the moment whilst I make headway with commissions. On the other hand however I think its something I really need to keep at and practice if I ever want to get comfortable at drawing human faces.
Here's Pyrenea's sheet I'm currently working on. I'm really happy with how these poses are coming out so far, they look quite natural rather than awfully stiff like my sheets had a tendancy to do!
One more view to finish off and a headshot and this bad boy's ready for colour!
Next three are a few badges I worked on, one is a commission the other two are trades. I'm seriously considering changing they way a do larger badges, I don't know I just think maybe they're lacking something?
Ooki Spooki
Jester Delorean, still needs colour finishing.
Taya.
I must admit whilst my camera destroys my linework, it does a better job at picking out the intensity of the colourwork.
And lastly some more personal work. I decided right at the beginning of 2010 that I wanted to re-do all my character sheets. For the most part the graphic design of them was just terrible and none of them had a clear consistantancy. With the case of Bal, whilst I didn't mind the graphics as much, the consistancy was all over the place and there was a lot of character traits I'd missed out. Also I've hated the way I've drawn his face since I created him. I've never been able to settle on a face shape which I can draw from all angles but I think I may finally be getting there.
Ignore the redish purple splodge, it's hair dye.
I'm actually really happy with how these came out and I definately think they're a marked improvement in how I draw him. Before I was having a hard time really conveying his manic personality but I think it's coming across a lot more now. Also with his previous sheet I was really unhappy with his actual figure, he was always meant to be skinny and a tad androgynous, yet before he just looked too chunky. I also added an extra stripe to his leg and made his hair even more like Yami Marik, oh dear.
I'm debating whether or not to scrap this, not sure whether I like it or not. It was meant as a more 'alternative' hair style as even I get fed up of inking his stupidly long woman hair. And yes I will shamefully admit it's inspired by Thomas Dolby's hair in the 80's, because god damn it it was glorious. The face shape annoys me slightly. I've finally decided he's a Jackal Demon and his face needs to be a lot thinner and pointed to convey this.
God damn you Bal! Causing me so much strife!
But yes that's my art post for this last week. I'll update later with this weeks work, I really want to push myself and do a A3 piece which I haven't done for a very long time. I plan to a litteral representation of Mr.Dolby's song Hyperactive! There's something incredibly creepy about that song and I get these incredibly stong images whenever I listen to it. So you never know I might start work on that later this week.
Critique and pointers are much appreciated!
