Its hard to be one crayon short when you're the only crayon in the box.

Thanks for the wonderful costume sugestions! As I was talking them over with my sister to see what I could managet to put together, she asked "why don't you just go as one of the crayons - its the easiest costume we have!"

Fact the first - I not only live 10 minutes drive from my sister's place, we also happen to work in different departments of the same company.

Fact the second - My sister is incredibly creative and whimsical. A few years ago (before I started working at the company) for Halloween work sponsored an aisleway costume contest - which cubeland aisle could come up with the best costumes. My sister and her coworkers were a box of crayons. Each wore black pants and a crayon colored shirt. From posterboard, she made a cone hat and a black oval which said "Crayon" in matching colors to wear on a ribbon around the neck. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Black (they don't make purple posterboard, apparently). From cardboard she made a standup crayon box front - yellow with the green diagonals, just like a real crayon box. For the pictures three kneeled behind the box and three stood behind them. Quite cute.

So I found a nice blue sweater, and was a blue crayon for halloween. :-)
