Logging out

Apr 04, 2009 01:08

So, you may or may not have noticed an absence on my part for a few weeks.  RL can be a bitch, and for the first time ever I'm not even really reading stuff right now.  So I thought I should let people know that I'm bowing out for a month or two--and unlike the past, I'm not going to be able to make an effort to read and comment, even.  So, know that I'm still with y'all in spirit, and I'll be back, just--yeah.  Don't worry about me, I'm just busy.

And to celebrate my new and internet-less lifestyle, I leave you with the last (?) Voyager fanfic in this series.

Title: Leaning
Fandom: Star Trek: Voyager
Pairing/Characters: Harry/Tom
Rating: G
Summary: Harry discovers he likes leaning on Tom.  Even with the painful imminent death.
Disclaimer: Other people own them, but won’t admit to the painfully obvious slash.
Word Count: 316

Harry leaned against the cool railing and gave a little wave when he spotted Tom leading a group of people up the stairs toward him and B’Elanna.  Tom came charging up the stairs and Harry let himself sag for a moment, let the tension and anxiety lift.  He and the argumentative Maquis weren’t going to die alone on an alien world, seventy thousand lightyears from home.

Determined not to be entirely dead weight, Harry pushed himself into a sitting position as Tom rounded the corner.  “Took you long enough,” he said, and Tom’s arms went around his back to haul him up.

“How could I let down the only friend I got?” Tom replied.  Harry wrapped his arm around Tom’s shoulders and did his best to stand.  The world spun, and Harry ended up plastered against Tom’s side, swaying as they made their way up the stairs.

“What makes you think I’m your friend?” Harry quipped back.  Quips in the face of danger, that was the key.  Tom’s hands tightened on Harry’s back and arm.  The pain was starting to make the world go fuzzy, and fine motor skill escaped him.  Harry leaned more into Tom, the other man’s body a swath of soothing warmth up his side.  It was nice.  It would probably be better if there weren’t pain and imminent death, Harry admitted.

If they really could get back to Voyager, if the EMH could fix whatever the Caretaker did to him and B’Elanna . . . it will still take seventy-five years for Voyager to get home.

Tom murmured to wait in his ear, and gently leaned him against a wall while he went ahead to check on their progress through the protective shield.  Harry blinked slowly and watched Tom.

Harry was pretty sure he wouldn’t mind taking seventy-five years to get home, as long as he got to spend them with Tom.
