CALL TO ARMS

Okay, so DC is cancelling, like eighty different comic books that I love.  This includes BIRDS OF PREY, ROBIN, NIGHTWING, and, worst of all in my opinion, BLUE BEETLE.

BLUE BEETLE has become my happy place in comics.  While people die and angst and act out of character in other titles, Jaime's BLUE BEETLE is smart, fun, diverse, inclusive, well-written, and all-around awesome.  It has arcs and a lot of one-shot issues, it has a main character with a huge, well-written, supporting cast, the stories are unique and interesting and always a ton of fun.

The only way to save this book is to buy it, people.  Pick up an issue, it's three dollars well-spent.  Please.  If you like BB, post about this somewhere, tell people to buy it.  Good sales are the only thing that stand a chance of saving this book.

Most of the issues in the #20s are one-shots, so if you've never read the title, pick one up.  Grab #26 to see Beetle take his grandmother flying and fight Parasite--in Spanish! (Don't worry, English speakers, the script is in the back.)  #28 for fighting a monster that turns out to be something much cuter!  #21 for deep issues and Jaime's awesome family.

At SDCC this year, a ton of people in panels expressed their adoration for Blue Beetle, to which Didio replied: Then go buy the book.  Tell your friends to buy the book.  This book is amazing, and the staff is behind it, but we can't keep it if it doesn't make money.

I'm paraphrasing, but that was the essential tone of what he said.  I haven't missed an issue since, and buy back issues whenever I find them, because I don't have them all yet.

Look, y'all.  I posted a while ago about the issues I have with comics as they're shaping up right now, and I've been extolling Jaime's virtues as an alternative to this for a while.  He's young, smart, addresses directly issues other titles sidle around, and FUN.

I read comics because I want to have fun.  BLUE BEETLE is a fun title.  I will miss it so, so much.  Even if it gets cancelled, I want people to have read this book.  It's just that awesome.

DC did something right.  I don't want it to go away.
