One day at work I was listening to "Phantom of the Opera" when it popped into my head . . . what if Raoul (Christine's beau) knew Bertie Wooster (professional layabout from P.G. Wodehouse's "Jeeves and Wooster" stories)? I mean, they're both upper class, they're both young, sort of foppish, and they're . . . kind of from the same time period, if you squint a little.
Of course I had to immediately Google "bertie wooster raoul" to see if anyone else had made this connection. And lo and behold . . .
Jeeves and the Opera Yes, not only had someone else seen the connection, but they had written a fantastic fanfic of it, from Bertie's point of view. It was delightful to see him meeting Raoul, P.t.O., and Christine, although she didn't quite live up to his "mental picture of Swedish girls . . . that they were six feet by an inch, wheeling about big blocks of cheese 'round the rustic mountain terrain, all the while dressed in milkmaid garb, their golden hair coiled in croissant fashion about their ears."
