I make it a point never to go out at night alone anymore, be it uptown or metairie, due to the numerous times i've fell into dangerous situations doing so in the past few years. I know that won't keep me completely safe, but at least i'm not left defenseless if someone is with me.
Well, I went out to Keystones Friday night to see Kevin's band play their last show before they break up and split into different bands. Josh was at work, so Michelle was supposed to come with me but she got sick and couldn't go at the last second. Thus I just said "fuck it" and went alone. When I got there the parking lot was full and the closest spot i could find was a block down from the bar next to a leveled parking lot for some hotel. I had no problem walking there. There were a few ppl around still at that time.
So, the show ends at like 2:00 am-ish and I talk to kevin for a while and then left to go home. I thought about asking him to walk me to my car, but he looked kinda busy talking to people so I didn't bother. I figured the odds of anything happening were slim. I wasn't parked too too far away. I get in my car and look out my window and see two random black guys standing like 5 yards away from me just standing in the hotel parking lot. They didn't look dangerous or anything and I didn't wanna do the stereotypical "lock the doors cause there's a black dude over there" crap. So I didn't think anything of it and continued to search for my cigarettes that i left on the floor of my car. Fucking two seconds later one of the guys has his hand on my car and goes to try to open the door. He didn't have a wepon, that I could see anyway, but still I floored it and drove off immediately. I don't know what the fuck he wanted or was trying to do, but I wasn't about to sit there and find out.
I swear to christ, if you're a female you really can't go anywhere in this city at night alone anymore without getting fucked with. The last 64457658 times I've done so, I've had guys mug or try to mug me every single time. It's ridiculous how quickly the crime has escalated here.
