Steve and I went to see his pain specialist today and I told her about trying to get him an NDIS package. It funds people who have disabilities and need special treatment, equipment, etc. When Labor (our version of Democrats) were in, they brought in the National Disability Insurance Scheme, then the Liberal Party, (our version of Republicans) took power and turned it into an absolute shit show. People who need it can't get on it or are underfunded. I am still trying to get Steve a package as his Dystonia has worsened so much. We drove to Lightning Ridge to look at black opals and it takes a couple of days to get there as it's in the middle of the desert. Usually, Steve can drive there with no problems, but this time it was so much harder for him. Walking and talking, picking things up is also becoming more challenging for him now. His doctors are great though, they are so supportive and are really helping him so hopefully, we will be able to get funding for treatment and equipment for him.
Lightning Ridge was great. Not many of the opal stores were open as the heat is so bad, people avoid going there until the cooler weather. We picked up a couple of gorgeous opals though. A silver ring with three opals and a black opal that Steve is having set into a wedding ring. So it was a bit of a mixed bag of a week.
