I've been vidding for about 6 months, but it turns out I'm completely new to conscious vidding. I've just discovered there's an entire universe of things I don't know and a constelation of things I've only managed to do half-right by pure pot luck. Ha! Nice post. Welcome to the crazy (and damn fun) world of vidding. I am fairly new myself (been doing it just a year) but still consider myself a newbie.

Don't be intimidated though. Seriously, anything goes. This is fandom. Do what pleases YOU. That is my best advice. Don't be afraid to try something new, if you fail, oh well, you learned something along the way and you can try again.

As far as the big bad vidders and all of that, well, in my experience none of us every really outgrow highschool, and always going through life feeling intimidated. There will always be the "cooler" kids. The groups and cliques you want to belong to but don't. You will crush on someone who doesn't notice you and be jealous of someone, too. But the thing to keep in mind is *everyone* feels like that. Seriously, even the big jock quarterback had some unrequited love. I guarantee it.

That said, don't vid to be noticed by a certain group. Vid to achieve what you want to achieve for you, whatever that might be. If you love what you do others will, too. Heart will always shine through more than clout.

Thanks for the welcome and reassurance. And don't worry, I was the geek non-conformist at school too and wouldn't ever vid to fit anyone else's expectations than my own (they're insanly high already)or to get noticed. I can use nifty livejournal posts to that end ;)
