I remember Slip 'n Slide. I saw one recently...some kid was playing on it in his yard, and I ran fully clothed and slid on it. I missed them so much.

Of course, it took me forever to get dry after that.

Ka? What is that...Egyptian for life or something?

"Ka" is a direct reference to Stephen King's "Dark Tower" epic. It does kind of represent "life", in a sense. Its actual definition is "the wheel of life" mixed with fate, destiny, or what have you.

Have you read these books? If you have not because you have qualms about King's "genre", I beg thee to give this collection a chance. You would "get it".

I haven't read any King at all, but once a friend of mine insisted that she read me one of his short stories over the phone.

I liked it. It was a sci-fi and I liked that it was in a classic sci-fi style where the author doesn't launch into pages and pages of detail on how a teleporter works.

Science fiction authors need to have more self-control. Nobody gives a fuck how many physics grad students you accosted in the local university cafeteria to offer them donuts if you can tape record their babbling.
