It is the suck outside, raining or drizzling pretty much all day. Officially the autumnal equinox is not until Sept. 23rd tho'.

It just pushes me farther into wanting to be in tune the Japanese seasonal cycle. I have to prepare ahead of time tho' since it is just me and not a horde of expert seamstresses. I figure I have to be preparing at least half a season ahead of time, so about six weeks to get something seasonal ready seems do-able.

Anyways, on to the projects:

I have been using online resources and Dalby's Kimono to help me decide what I will make for Lions Gate's Baronial Banquet on Nov. 10th. I will probably wear the outfit to Tir Righ Investiture on the 16th-18th in Shittimwoode as well.

This is a compiled list of appropriate Heian colour combinations for the 10th month onwards to go-sekku, approximately Jan. 7th (not an exhaustive list):

Ao momiji (green maples)
Haji momiji (sumac maples)
Kaede momiji (downy maples)
Kurenai momiji (pink maples)
Moriji momiji (mixed maples)
Momiji no samazama (diverse?? maples)
Kiku no yoyo (diverse chrysanthemuma)
Kigiku (yellow chrysanthemums)
Ki momiji (yellow maples)

Until I know better, I will bastardize what I know about seasonal motifs and these colour combos. Diverse chrysanthemums has five robes of maroon going from dark to light with white linings over a blue-green hitoe/chemise. And I know that fall leaves and colours are appropriate for this point in the cycle.

This is what I have come up with so far for layers starting from in going out:

Shiro (white) kosode, unlined, out of the semi-sheer dupioni I bought
Ao (blue-green) kosode, unlined or just a han eri to fake a layer, out of the blue-green silk organza, close to the ro weave of silk
Shiro kosode, lined in a lighter silk same colour
Ao obi - out of the blue-green organza like the one I made already but found it was too short, I will probably machine sew this one
Suo (maroon or burgundy) uchikake, have to dye some of my fuji broadcloth? that is currently a red-pink more like kobai or kurenai, de with designs of stylized momiji, maple leaves in yamabuki (golden yellow), lined with a light shiro silk

This also has the feeling of ura koki suo, deep maroon linings, but with white and yellow involved

Or I could do a "less" ambitious pattern of stripes or another motif, so not to feel that I am copying Saionji no Hanae.  Inspired hell yes, copying um, no.

And another thing, I gotta get a period generic given name . . .

kosode, a&s, kimono, baronial banquet, wafuku, momoyama, lions gate, garb, irome no kasane, investiture, japanese garb, tir righ
