Philosophy Project

So I just (finally) finished my adv seminar project proposal...yay. Here's what I'm reading (hopefully I'll be able to actually get through them and not have to SparkNotes or anything...bwah.):

Eastern Philosophies:
*Buddhism/Zen -- Tipitaka (The Three Baskets) and selected Zen koans
*Taoism -- Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching
*Hinduism -- Selections from the Upanishads
*Confucianism -- Selections from the Analects
Western Philosophers:
*Rene Descartes -- Discourse on the Method
*David Hume -- Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion
*Voltaire -- Candide and/or Selections from Dictionnaire Philosophique
*Friedrich Nietzsche -- Beyond Good and Evil

Should be fun. Plus, I'm reading whatever Drew comes up with for the philosophy lunch discussion group...we're starting with some Plato...which I need to grab a copy of. It's nice because mose of this stuff is old and so it's public domain and all availible online. I kind of would rather have books for mass reading though, since the eBooks are all really generic and blah and hard to read because they're not spaced well or anything.

On another note, we started Existentialism today in English w/ The Stranger. It's pretty good so far. I really connect with Existentialism, despite its apparent cynisism. I'm sort of a cross between a transcendentalist and an existentialist. Yay :)
