There are moments in life that are too big for any one person and they don't fade away like normal memories. They linger, surrounding a soul, drowning them in darkness. The sounds, sights, feelings, they all keep haunting a person until they break. Most of the time, they can pick themselves up, plaster up the cracks, ad move on. Sometimes they stay shattered.
He used to say that his mother had him tested, as if the long ago tests were proof against what was happening, a last ditch effort to convince himself.
He can't lie, even to himself.
He'd spent too long peering into the mysteries of the universe to miss the truth. In one of his more lucid moments, he thinks the worst part is that he can always see the darkness coming.
It started small at first. His already firm routinges and guidelines became rock-solid. There could be no room for deviation, no small opening for chaos to creep through. Then he stopped playing video games against the others. He couldn't control the outcome, couldn't predict the final score.
