Book-book-book ... bookawk!

Today I went out and did something I've been dying to do for a long time ... I bought some books. :)

The State of Fantasy These Days *shakes cane* )

Me too! That's actually four good reviews I've heard for 'Locke Lamora' now, so I'm thinking of reading it last, just in case it's the best one. I always try to read my best book last for some reason :D

Ooh, Dragons! I have that monster edition too, though mine's so well-thumbed that it's slowly dying a crumbly death. Brilliant books, I reckon - and a spiffing example of how a very old theme (dragonslaying) can still be reworked with great success. I'm pretty indifferent to colourless Goldmoon/Riverwind and hate that whiny, self-pitying Tanis/Laurana pair with a passion (I must be feeling oblique *cough*), but Raistlin and Caramon were quite simply two of the best, most nuanced characters I have ever, ever read. It's a brotherly relationship that isn't a mindless 'bad versus good' rivalry and isn't some idealised, perfect fraternal bond either. I love them both to death. :D

Can't go wrong with Flint and Tasslehoff, too. I love that pair -so- much. ^_^

*passes out*

I can conceive (barely) that a person might like Tanis, but ... favourite?! Out of a book containing Caramon, Raistlin, Flint, Tasslehoff, Kitiara ... *sobs*

When you say 'sequel' you're talking about the 'Twins' series, I assume? I was very fond of that too. It's also nice that Weis/Hickman let their characters grow up or reach an ending, unlike a lot of writers ;P

Hee hee. Fizban was the name of the wizard. I loved him as well (of course). He also appears in the Death Gate series they wrote together - have you read any of those? (I'd read the first four and then ignore the rest if I were you ... very, very disappointing finish to a series they'd run out of ideas for, I reckon ...)

Ah, I forgive you, then, hon. That's just how magnanimous I am. *cough*

I shudder to think what abominations must have been inflicted on that story if the movie's come and gone without a whimper in the reviews ... perhaps it's just because I was in Japan, but you'd think it'd still be running in February here ... *hmms* >_>

I'm strangely curious to find out what you think on the reread too ... let me know when you're done, won't you? ;D
