Maura Steves McLaughlin
June 3, 2008 Maura Steves McLaughlin, 32, of Fairmount, passed away Tuesday at home surrounded by her family after a valiant year-long fight with brain cancer. Maura was born in Utica and raised in Fairmount, attending West Genesee High School, Herki-mer Community College and receiving her college degree from CCBI. She had been a resident of Syracuse area her entire life. She was employed for three years at University Pediatrics and five years at Family Care Medical Group as a medical receptionist. Maura was a member of the CNY chapter of Love the Children. Surviving are her husband of 11 years, Erin McLaughlin; her children, Joseph and Elizabeth, at home; her parents, Robert and Margaret Steves of Fairmount; a brother, Ian (Amy) Steves of Atlanta; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Friday in Holy Family Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Whelan Bros. Funeral Home, 3700 W. Genesee St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the McLaughlin Children's Education Fund, C/O Syracuse Fire Dept.
