"*”Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.” - Was this an example of Vader’s past Jedi training coming to the fore? Or was this an example of his Sith background? Or his 30 odd years as a Force user?"
"~Any or all. Good observation..."
I thought it was just simple fact. Makes sense.
"*Someone in my family had pointed out that the Rebels never really had any kind of strategy to destroy the Death Star. Instead, the Alliance military leaders merely had an objective and a method to destroy the station."
"~This was a messy plot hole because the Death Star was not actually meant to be destroyed until the end (ROTJ) but Lucas needed some climax and victory in ANH to make the movie successful and due to lack of precedence you could not count on a political victory won with an army of bipedal amphibians and still call it epic."
You know, now that I read this, it occurs to me that the Battle of Endor would have felt more epic if it was the same Death Star they were trying to destroy. The Mark II is less terrible because it's new, and because there's this sentiment that goes "if they destroyed the first one, they can destroy the second."
