I spent a week in Seattle and all I got was this lousy swine flu.

Seriously, I did. It was icky. Jon is still getting over it.

September 3-10 Jon and I went to Seattle to attend both PAX and Bumbershoot and then spend some time doing touristy things and visit a friend/former coworker. Overall it was a fun vacation (except the getting sick part), my two complaints being 1) I didn't get to do enough stuff and 2) I had to come back. :(

We flew to Seattle early Thursday morning (after I spent all night finishing up a paper I needed to turn in before I left, go me!) and checked in, then spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon wandering around Pike Place Market which the hotel got our room ready, then went back, took a nap and had take-out thai food for dinner.

Friday/Saturday/Sunday was PAX and it absolutely rocked my socks. It's funny to me, because initially I was skeptical and not at all sure I wanted to go, but Jon really did so we got tickets anyway. (Speaking of which, remind me never to let him be in charge of event tickets ever again. He's terrible at doing things in a timely manner.) We got to see a lot of really neat demos: Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Ratchet & Clank, Scribblenauts, WOW: Cataclysm, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Dragon Age, Avatar, Aion, Sam & Max... I'm probably forgetting a few. We also saw a panel on Assassin's Creed 2 and the new Splinter Cell, which actually looked good enough to make me seriously consider getting an Xbox 360. Jon got to see a panel on Old Republic, the new Star Wars MMO, and said it looked pretty amazing, too. Saturday night was the concert with Freezepop, Paul & Storm, and Jonathan Coulton. It was a phenomenally awesome show, though I took a nap during Freezepop because it had been a busy day and I was tired.

Monday was spent alternately attending Bumbershoot and being horribly ill, though we did get to see Franz Ferdinand and a little of Modest Mouse. I'm disappointed that I didn't enjoy the Franz Ferdinand show more; it seemed a little lackluster, but that probably had something to do with the fact the I was sick and also sitting kind of far away so as to not get rained on. Modest Mouse was pretty awesome, however, and I'll definitely have to borrow some of Chris's CDs.

The rest of the trip was spent pretty much recouperating from the flu. I was feeling a bit better on Tuesday (though Jon was still in bed) so I got to visit with my friend Lexy over tea and check out a little bit of the Chinatown/International District area. Thursday we took a last look around Pike Place Market and visited the first Starbucks, then flew home and pretty much collapsed from exhaustion. (I spent the entire next day being lazy because I was still tired.)

We bought a cheap digital camera while we were up there, so I have 8 billion or so photos (actually something like 600) to post as soon as I get the computer fixed and drivers situated and figure out how to use Flickr (I am so behind the times).
