As someone whose never read the comics (and probably won't anytime soon), I'm dying to know...
How did Rorschach get his mask? I was actually very curious on this, especially with the "ink splotches" constantly changing but it being 1985. He was my favorite character and I was bummed that he met his end in the end. :-( Though, Night Owl the geek had his charm. :-)
Actually, now that you mention the voice, Billy Cruddup had a certain Hal (2001) quality to his voice

Walter Kovacs (aka Rorschach) left home at sixteen and went to work in a clothing factory. Some lady had a custom order dress made using fabric composed of a black viscous fluid between two sheets of latex. She never came to pick it up, saying it was too ugly. No one wanted it so Kovacs took it home, played around with it a bit then forgot about it. Two years later, Kovacs sees the woman on the front page of the paper, having been raped and murdered in her apartment building while her neighbors just stood and watched. Upset and ashamed over what happened, he goes home, digs out the fabric and makes his mask, as he said "...a face I could bear to look at in the mirror
