Greetings from London!
Hi everybody! I thought it would be fun to try and make a couple posts on vacation. My 2 cousins and I have been in London for a little over two days now. It's awesome here! Very expensive, but awesome. Just walking around the streets filled with fascinating and/or historical architecture is neat. We walked along the Thames the first night we were here and it was beautiful in the evening.
I wish we had more time here. A good chunk of our first day here was eaten by jetlag. I was staggering around the British Museum, barely awake and conscious, by that first afternoon. Friday was much better, though we did oversleep a bit. Still, we saw a chunk of the Tower of London (nifty weapons and armor!), rode the London Eye (totally awesome!), ate at several local pubs and restaurants, and saw the LOTR Musical last night.
The musical was pretty darn cool, and very funny at times, if a bit odd story-wise due to the time compression necessary to cover all 3 books in 3 hours. They ended up deleting Rohan altogether, merging the characters of Theoden and Denethor into one character, The Steward of the City of Kings. I noticed they were very careful never to mention the names of Gondor or Rohan. It was forever 'the world of Men'-this, and 'The Kingdom of Men'-that. So, there was only one Helm's Deep type battle, taking place at that generic city of Men. No orc counting games, to my dismay, but suprisingly good Legolas/Gimli content given the time limitations and understandable focus on Frodo and Sam, and Aragorn/Arwen. Squee moments: Legolas and Gimli had some great bickering at the Council, then actually came to blows outside Moria and Gandalf had to yell at them. Gimli had a solo song inside Moria, then Legolas had one in Lothlorien as the introduction to a Galadriel feature. I had a MAJOR squee moment when they included the blindfolding scene in Lothlorien, and the lines about the stiff necks of Elves and Dwarves. And there was a great scene right near the end before the Black Gates where they promised to show each other their forests/caves, and Legolas named Gimli elf-friend. *happy sigh* Oh, and the hobbits were continually touchy-feely with everyone in the Fellowship, but they seemed to like hanging on Legolas a lot, which I found absolutely adorable.
Anyway, we are taking the Chunnel to Paris today, after a bit more shopping and some breakfast, so I have to go now. Hopefully, I can make a post from Paris as well! Bye for now!
