Update from El Paso

Dec 06, 2005 03:50

For all those of you who read my last post (big thanks to those kind folks who left me messages of support, btw!), I decided that I had better write a follow-up to keep my friends updated.

My grandfather died last Thursday morning, December 1st, at around 5am, CST. I took 2 days off of work for funeral leave and spent all of today traveling to El Paso, Texas for the wake/funeral. He will be buried next to my grandmother, who died 7 years ago.

On the plus side, I get to share a hotel room with my cousin Kelly, whom I haven't seen in many years. We had fun tonight talking and catching up on things, and finding out we had WAY more in common than I had ever expected. All of my immediate cousins on that side of the family are here, and it will be very special having all of us here together at once, quite possibly for the last time now that some of them are married and starting their own families now. We are going out to lunch tomorrow as a huge group, to the phenomenal Mexican restaurant that was Papa's favorite, as a tribute to him before the viewing at the funeral home tomorrow night. The next couple days won't be easy, but I'm glad I have a great family to share these times with and support each other. Thank you, and rest in Peace, Nana and Papa.
