So this weekend I fell in love with the idea of doing IK's Silken Spencer out of stash yarn. I have 400m of red merino, light worsted, which I have been dying to use up. I was going to use some random stash yarn as the accent. Unfortunately this sweater seems to take a lot of yarn. For the smallest size (since I've got a thicker yarn I'm going to ( Read more... )

What's the gauge and yardage? I don't have the magazine yet...

The gauge of the yarn in the magazine is 23 st/4 inch and I think it's about 190m per skein. I'm assuming it's dk weight yarn or else knit at a really tight gauge. It's silk. I think I would really get a lot of use out of a little sweater like this. I'm going to wander over to elann again to see if there is anything I might be able to use.

My planned modifications include: not doing fair isle, instead making the border on the body as wide as on the sleeves and not folding it over.

I was so excited about using stash yarn. Bah humbug.

I will check out the ol' spreadsheet. Silk is hard to compare to other yarns sometimes because it needs to be knit pretty tight to preserve form.

Ah, it's made from La Luz. N&P has it, tres pricey. Let me think about this...

OK, your dreams just may come true: I have a load of Horstia Wool/Silk that is just as lustrous as the La Luz in almost identical colours as the Silken SPencer uses, and I don't want it!!! The gauge of the yarn is a DK, and I think that I have enough, even. The gauge might even work out.

Hooray for knitting kismet!

NO WAY!! Are you sure? I don't want to deprive you. I'd offer a yarn trade but I don't know if I have anything to give away (it's amazing how you can have a tonne of yarn and not be able to part with any of it). How about I buy you dinner next time you're in town?

Sounds good to me. I will bring it in on Wednesday, OK? Maybe you won't like it...

It's possible but maybe I'll love it!!
So I'll see you Wednesday? Got any specific plans? I want to finish the last sleeve so if a SnB could be scheduled that would be great.

You guys and your clapotis icons are so cute. ^.^ What a lovely, mutually beneficial friendship! Heehee. Keep us updated on the yarn and progress of the sweater!

Why thank you :)
It's so nice to be back in the same part of the country as my knitting buddies. Do you have local people to knit with?

Erg, no. >.< I think anyone who has knitting groups around here does so through the LYS's, and, no offense to anyone, but they're all.... older. I need to teach some of my friends to knit so we can have our own SnB! *Sigh*

I did that when I was in Vancouver. All of my knitting friends were in Ontario so I had a knitting party, got about 6 or 7 of my classmates together with wine and yarn, and I taught them how to knit! And four of them are still doing it! I considered it a huge success :)

thems good odds! Out of the people I have taught, I guess only Hilary (my sister) didn't take to the yarn, and out of all the others, only Gen is not fully obsessed! (she's just a social knitter... give me time)

Everyone needs a clapotis icon. This isn't even my clap! This is one I knit for another friend of ours :)

You need to make an icon based on your clap.
