I can't believe how long it's been since I posted something! *hangs head in shame* Anyone who cares has my sincerest apologies.
Anyway, while Melbourne has been alternating between stifling heat and unseasonable cold, I was experiencing a dryspell of my own. Unfortunately, it's been writing-related and had been going on since the end of November (as this coincides with NaNoWriMo, I'm inclined to believe that the month-long challenge broke me).
I found myself unable to write anything. I sat, stared at the screen, typed a few sentences, a couple of paragraphs if I was lucky, and that's all there was. The well, it seemed, was dry.
And then, just the other day, it rained (metaphorically, of course; it barely even rains in winter here), and suddenly the well was full again. I was in the shower (that's where most of my fiction ideas come to me, though I can't say why) and into my head popped a random Doyle scene, set about 7 months after Long Road Home ends. No, it wasn't a scene for the novel, but I wasn't about to start complaining and when I sat down in front of my computer, the document I'd opened was blank for no more than the three seconds it took for me to centre myself. Then, I was off. The tapping of keys filled the room and my fingers (obviously out of practice) tripped over each other trying to get the words out.
And ever since? I've been happily typing away at whatever takes me fancy. I was even able to write the old-fashioned way, with a pen and paper, which I've never been much good at. *sigh* I can only hope that this frenzy holds long enough for me to get LRH done by the end of March, in accordance with my goal for the year. :) I'll let you know how it goes.
