I've just finished playing The Witcher. It was a fine game, but not as brilliant as I expected after reading so many positive reviews. I know that I won't replay it, even though there are two (or three?) different paths you can go. I sided with the templars the knights and gave Geralt a completely un-Gerelt-y personality. I didn't read the books, so my understanding of him is very basic, but I guess considering Triss the love of his life and wanting to get married and become a farmer is something "real" Geralt wouldn't think of even for a moment.

To be honest, I didn't like the idea of a pre-written player character, even though he had an amnesia. I like to create my own pre-history.

But what irked me the most was that most of the named female characters wanted to sleep with him. The only ones who wouldn't want him were the owners of the brothels, they just sent their girls instead. Well, and some very non-human ladies. And sometimes you're forced to sleep with them because it's their way to pay for your help. I'm not an active feminist, but this level of machismo is extremely annoying even for me.

But technically the game is quite good. It's very logical, especially when it comes to loot and AI. It has very pretty scenery. Oh, and the loading screens are beautiful, I wish I could paint like that. The main plot is passable, but I wouldn't say it's great. Though some things were quite unexpected, which is good.
