Aoi Hana

I've just finished watching this series. It was positioned as the best new yuri, and I eventually gave up and decided to watch it. I don't know what to say about it. This series might be somewhat realistic. I'm not familiar with Japanese school culture, let alone Catholic all-girls Japanese schools, but this story made me frown.

No doubt, at least half of students in such schools are lesbians. Some are open to everyone, even to their families, and the said families accept it with no question. And of course everyone is in love with someone, which is never a mutual feeling. Ah, right, the best and most realistic part of it is that the true love always blossoms between childhood friends, and they always realise it in the last episode.

Why are so many yuri series built on this (or very similar) basis? Kashimashi, MariMite, Strawberry Panic, Sasameki Koto, and now Aoi Hana. I'm sure there are others I missed.

This series is not as bad as SP, if you put romance aside, it can be quite entertaining. But unfortunately it's a big part of the story, and without all those love triangles it would be half as short as it is now, if not even shorter.

Heh. I wanted to write a review, and ended up ranting. Bad, bad Kleo. But I really wish there was something about a couple similar to Haruka and Michiru. Or at least something as light and entertaining as El Cazador.
