Feeling nostalgic today.

One of my "on this day" posts on Facebook today was from the brief stint where I had Facebook posting my lj posts as notes on Facebook (I didn't leave this on for long because it felt really weird to have people I knew IRL reading my LJ, not that I was putting anything private on here or anything but it still felt weird.) But anyway seeing that post made me feel nostalgic and sometimes I find my self wanting to write things that are too wordy for Facebook statuses, so after a few attempts to remember my password, here I am. Given that it's been over 2 years since I posted anything perhaps a brief update is warranted.

We moved into our house shortly after my last post. And shortly after that we adopted Tink. She's a Border Collie mix. I went to an adoption event planning on adopting an older or at least and adult dog and she sort of suckered me in even though she was only 7 months old. Her mother was one of the dogs I was specifically interested in from the rescue's site but when we met her we just didn't click, there was also an air of anxiety around her I wasn't sure we were up to handling. When we went to put her back in her kennel I asked if anyone knew how she was around cats and she said she wasn't sure if she had been around cats yet but two of her puppies were here and they were good with cats. I had compleatly overlooked them because of their age but Tink was laying there in her kennel with big brown eyes looking up at me so sweetly and her tag marking her as a "couch potato" (news flash, no dog under 2 years old qualifies as a couch potato, but I think they marked her as that because she had a limp from a old broken leg and I think they just didn't want anyone adopting her expecting to take her running for miles or on long hikes, but her limp has improved as she builds more muscle in the leg that was broken and she loves to run and go on hikes) So we adopted her and I haven't regretted it. She's a pretty great dog. She doesn't necessarily look like a Border Collie but her mom did and she has a Border Collie personality. She's mixed with something tall and skinny and brindle (you can't see it in the picture probably but she has brindle on her cheeks and legs.)

So after about a year of her telling us that we are boring and not that much fun to play with we (well I) decided that she needed a friend to play with. I had a list of requirements that I had in another dog. I wanted a male (because Tink doesn't always get along with female dogs), they had to be about the same age and size as she was and they had to be submissive, as Tink wants to be top dog, so I figured It would take a while to find a dog that met all those criteria but I opened the site for the rescue that we adopted Tink from and low and behold there he was, he had only been added to the site the day before. I went to the pet store where the rescue people always brought dogs on Saturdays and with out mentioning him specificity I mentioned that I was looking a friend for Tink (she and her family were sort of a hard luck case [hence the broken leg] and everyone at the rescue knows who she is) and she said, "oh we have dog that would be perfect for her" sure enough, she was talking about the same dog. I took it as a sign and put in an application which was approved almost immediately and we met him and took him home on a one week trial (all of their adoptions start with a one week trial which I am in favor of. A lot of places insist that you can't take a dog home with out officially adopting them and then if it doesn't work out it looks bad that you adopted this dog and returned it.) His name at the Rescue was Cowboy, which I didn't care for and he had been with them for such a short time that he didn't know it, unlike Tink who knew her name when we adopted her. I decided to go with the theme however and we decided to go with Zane. They said he is and Border Collie/ spaniel mix which he does have a spaniel face but aside from being black and white he doesn't have any Border Collie traits. He has the personality of some sort of lapdog. Officially I say he is a Cavalier King Charles spaniel mix but I think he might be a Tibetan Spaniel mix... the personality matches to a tee but if I show someone a picture they get hung up on the fact that they have a smooshie face and completely miss the fact that they have the same sort of ears and coat as Zane and that they carry their tail up over their backs like Zane does. Those who actually have heard of a Tibetan Spaniel say they are too uncommon but we did a fracture repair on an intact male Tibetan Spaniel one day and I thought, awww this could be Zane's daddy.

Well this is really long enough at this point and the battery on my laptop is getting low (we don't have any grounded outlets int bedroom so I can't plug it in in here. Hopefully It won't be another 2 years before I post anything.
