So, I thought I'd create a bit of a meme; I encourage you all to play!
List one song from the six years between turning thirteen and turning eighteen. It doesn't have to be the biggest song of the year from a commercial standpoint, just the song that evokes that year for you most strongly. List the songs - for bonus points, provide links to the music so everyone can relive your childhood with you. :)
The year I turned 13: 1988. Seventh grade.
John Farnham - Two Strong Hearts. (Ignore the video, but the song is the right version.
The year I turned 14: 1989. Eighth grade.
Johnny Diesel & the Injectors - Lookin' For Love. Some of the best Aussie pub rock around.
The year I turned 15: 1990. Ninth grade.
Faith No More - Epic. Possibly one of the worst video clips of all time, but I loved the song so very much. (Fact: Mike Patton can't dance.)
The year I turned 16: 1991. Tenth grade.
Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine. I saw Terminator 2 about eight million times that year, too.
The year I turned 17: 1992. Eleventh grade.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge. Man, this song has aged well.
The year I turned 18: 1993. Twelfth grade.
Spin Doctors - Jimmy Olsen's Blues. Most of what I listened to in 91-92 was actually heavy metal, but no single song stands out. This song, on the other hand, has a lot of very strong associations for me.
Things I learnt during my Youtube searches: rockstars generally can't dance, and the 80s was a heinous decade for fashion.
