whatever happened to education for the sake of learning?
i hear so many complaints about gen eds and how people are sick of school, and though i've uttered those things myself at 2am working on particularly not scintillating material, on the whole i thoroughly enjoy my education && i enjoy living in a country which allows the free and open exchange of ideas.
i just... wish there were more people who dreamt of a massive personal library and fantasized about spending our saturdays curled up inside of it. I'm going to be one of them.
and, i know our public school system isn't without flaws, but i don't know... as most of you know, I'm pretty anti-homeschool. i just believe that there is so much in education that is OUTSIDE the classroom... Lessons in diversity and dealing with people who are DIFFERENT from you... 'cause that's the real world. && don't get me wrong, i have some friends who were homeschooled && i can't judge them for it.. it's just how i feel.
ahem.. anyway--
i used to read everything when i was younger, and now most of the reading i do is required for class... i want to get back to pleasure reading... and i want someone to discuss the things we read together.
[i need to get back to new york]
i am tired of being constrained by my fears.
