Well, it's been almost a month, but yes, I'm still here! Not sure how many of you have actually NOTICED that I've been gone, though.
I still haven't posted about the Memento concert.. I'll probably add my story of it to my website... eventually. Uhm.. in other news.. School is going okay. I've been keeping up with my work, but I'm not quite a hard-worker. I'm maintaining B's and A's, but I'm just stuck in senioritis. 3 more months to go! I'm ready to get out of here.
In news of college: I was accepted into the Turing Scholars Program for Computer Science at the Univ. of Texas. W00t. I'm like one of fifty who got in.. and being a girl, that's awesome. The Comp Sci program at UT is rated 7th in the district, and based on the teaching and such, it's pretty much the same as MIT. This Saturday, yesterday, I went to the Open House thing for the program. It was luncheon.. got to meet other new students and their families, and talk one-on-one with current staff and scholar students. I was shy at first, and only my parents asked questions.. but everyone was so nice! Even the chairman of the department talked to me, and answered my questions. Then we went downstairs to wander through Explore UT set-ups. We found the A.I. room where they had a robotic arm.. a robot who was able to map out a room by objects in it, not by measuring it.. then they had Sony Aibo dogs that they had programmed to do different things - one cool thing was they were trying to get their own team of Aibos to be able to play soccer! :D After I was bouncing from the coolness of that, I went to another booth about game design/programming. I almost passed it up, but stopped to look at the books they had. The lady said "Hi, what games do you play?" I replied "Well, right now, Starcraft and Counterstrike." She nodded and told me a little about EGaDS. A guy working on a laptop popped up and said "Counterstrike? Awesome." And he proceeded to invite me to an annual LAN party they hold for Counterstrike and told me to join up with the club when I got to UT. Go me. ;) After talking with all the people that I did, I cannot wait to go to UT. I want to get into the music scene, the gaming scene... just experience Austin! But, woe is me.. I have to go through 3 more months of stupid high school before I can get out into the world. I enjoy high school at times, and my friends are great, but there's so much awaiting me...
Will post more later.
