They've been on a fast since 8 pm last night, because Deirdre will be under anesthetic in an hour or so. Deirdre gets very vocal when she is hungry. She is doing everything she can think of to make it clear to my limited human intellect that she is absolutely starving! Meowling (my portmanteau of meow and howling/yowling, for a loud and mournful-sounding meow), inserting herself between me and whatever I'm looking at, nipping me to get my attention, etc. Both cats have been sitting by the empty food dishes and looking at me expectantly, and running to their feeding station whenever I get to my feet. Even Apricot has meowled a couple times (unusual for her), and she is now digging in the litter neurotically.
Poor little kitties. Apricot will get food as soon as I've packed Deirdre up in the crate, but Deirdre will have none before she is sufficiently recovered from the anesthetic. :/
It is not neglect, little ones. It is, in fact, quite the opposite. Deirdre's having her teeth cleaned at great expense, to prevent the horrors of abscesses and bone infections.
