*le massive, massive sigh*
I would very much like at the moment to head back to civilisation. There are a number of things making me fed up with being at home. For starters I miss my uni friends. And I miss having a schedule and work to do and reading to get through (pls note: I realise that when I have a schedule and work to do and reading to get through that I will miss not having the above, I will complain about it and the cycle will continue). And I miss having the freedom to come and go as I please and actually have somewhere to go when I'm going somewhere.
On top of all of this, proving that I probably miss having real problems too, I really freaking miss having a decent sized cinema nearby. There are a couple of films out/coming out that I'd quite like to see (like Man On Wire, The Wackness and the new Shane Meadows film) but our local multiplex is so small and this area so tragically boring and uncultured that none of these films are actually showing. Not that I'd have anybody to go with, which makes me miss uni more because Row is the best cinema-buddy ever. As much as I love Debra, she does tend to want to see things that I really, really don't want to and often really doesn't want to see the things that I'm quite interested in. She doesn't want to see You Don't Mess with the Zohan because she doesn't like Adam Sandler. She doesn't want to see Hellboy 2 because it, and I quote, 'had that guy with the big red face'. I did consider blackmailing her to go see The Strangers with me, because recently I've been missing the daft slasher flicks of my teens (I don't care what anybody says, Scream is very entertaining). But I've changed my mind about that because it's being very aggressively marketed (the trailer runs once every ad-break on Paramount after 9pm). I don't trust things when they're so heavily advertised. And I think it might be an americanization of a French film I enjoyed (I can never remember if it's called 'They' or 'Them' but it's along those lines) and the whole 'Why are you doing this?!'/'coz you were home' exchange in the trailer makes me wonder if somebody thinks they're being really clever and postmodern and making a scathing comment... whereas in reality Funny Games did all that ages ago (in German, and then more recently in English) and is considerably more cutting and, disturbingly, stylish. Perhaps I should do some imdb-fu and find out if my assumptions are on the money or not. If not and it's actually considered good... I might go see it. If so, I'll avoid.
Oh and I gave up trying to go see Wall.E. Nobody loves cute robots as much as I do :(
