So, current wordcount for today is 5,517 words. Also, Jesus. Mostly, a lot of the wordcount came from my main villain's own issues. Thinking he was betrayed (even though he was kind of the one who betrayed everyone. Less Caesar, more Brutus actually), etc. It was pretty interesting -- even if I feel like I have to take a mental shower now -- to get inside his head. Also got to write a tender scene between the main character's adoptive parents. They're both happily married, and I'm definitely hoping I can capture the scene of them being happily married while also dealing with the mother's guilt from the past. (Let's say she has a lot of self-blame) I'm not married myself, so I have no idea.
In terms of influences, I will admit Stephen King was one of the things influencing me a little writing the adoptive parents bit. One of his best examples is PET SEMATARY (which I may have covered in the shipping meme) where he really captures how close Rachel and Louis' relationship is before the whole incident with Church starts off a domino effect of awful. (The poor Creed family. I'd say they were several of the most screwed over people in Stephen King's books) So I definitely hope the adoptive parents come off as likable. Heck, I hope all the characters are likable and in the case of the bad guys, compelling.
