pronker asked me this:
We've passed the 6 month mark for 2016. How is the year going, fandomly, RL, either or both?
To be perfectly honest, I'm just going to be happy this year is over because of how rough it's been. Mostly, I've been coping with it via my writing. I've been working on a bit of a massive prequel story for The Force Awakens that outlines what exactly happened to Ben Solo to make him who he is and that's also been overwhelming just in terms of keeping track of different bits of canon information (as the new EU pulled the rug out from under me by saying that Ben was actually twenty-three when he fell, so, thanks a million, EU. /sarcasm), worrying about getting characterizations right (good thing is that I'm coming through with quite a bit of affection for Luke thus far), worrying about mishandling delicate subjects that come up (it's sort of like walking a tightrope), things like that. But it has been a good coping strategy. I've also been handling some stuff re: old emotions springing up from the Legends canon because...well, you know how in the old days I ranted about how much Luke was mishandled? (Boy, were those days embarrassing!) Well, that was just the tip of the iceberg, actually. So was Legends!Han basically wishing Jacen/Caedus was dead. So I've been sorting through some old emotions on that. A lot of them. Most of it's been a lot of sorting-through-old-emotions. It'll definitely be something by the time I've completed the story.
And I've been working on my original fiction as well. I admit that there was a moment I lost my passion for original fiction (call it a major bad patch, honestly) but I have been recovering it. At least that bad patch has also given me the opportunity to reexamine certain things and start cleaning them out. Which counts for something.
