I'm glad you mentioned Feanor - yeah, the theme of greed in Tolkien's stories comes alive in the people who practice it. Tolkien can do it sort of comically, like Bilbo's greedy cousin Sackville-Baggins and her heisting his teaspoons, or he can have it be a flaw in a powerful person, like Feanor or Thorin.
