Watched "The Doctor Dances". In a word: Amazing.
Things I Loved:
-Nine scaring off the gas mask zombies with "Go to your room!" And his Lampshade Hanging afterwards: "I'm really glad that worked. Those would have been terrible last words." XD
-Nine switching Jack's sonic blaster with a banana. Also, later, this exchange:
NINE: Don't drop the banana!
JACK: Why?
NINE: Good source of potassium!
Seriously one of my favorite exchanges from DOCTOR WHO. :)
-Rose flirting with Nine. Just...adorable. I think I'd be hard-pressed to find a Nine/Rose moment that wasn't adorable, really. :)
+ And Jack acting as a bit of a shipper on deck as well. That was funny. :)
-Nancy telling off that one asshole who was ordering her around and such. Just...awesome.
-Nancy's relationship with the kids under her care. Just adorable. And it's really one of those moments where...well, you don't have to put a weapon in the hands of a female character to make her strong. Nancy's strong if only because of her cleverness, her compassion (taking in kids who have no place to go), her protective nature towards them, her courage in going to the restricted area to confront her gas-masked son alone, and, ultimately, saving the day by choosing to accept her son after all this time.
-And it really adds an element of poignancy to things as well, regarding Jamie -- because what was happening...it wasn't out of malice. It was mostly out of wanting to find his mummy, if only out of fear.
* I hope Jamie and Nancy were happy in the end, really. :)
-Rose reassuring Nancy that the Germans won't win the war. Just...oh, Rose. *Hugs her* It's really one of those many moments that I absolutely adore her. Hell, she was just generally a lot of fun in the two-parter in general. But I love this exchange if only for the message behind it, in a way: no matter how bleak things seem, they will get better. I think it's a very important message to have, really.
-Nancy's backstory being revealed. Just...poor woman. That poor, poor woman. ;.;
-"There isn't a little boy alive who wouldn't tear the world apart to save his mummy. And this little boy can." Truer words have never been spoken.
-"Yes, I am your mummy. I will always be your mummy." And later, the nanogenes healing Jamie, and Nine's just...joyful reaction to seeing Jamie healed. Because something has finally gone right for him. And it's one of those moments, really, where Nine and Eight aren't really that different after all. Because underneath everything, Nine just has so much compassion and hope and belief -- I think it's like that with every Doctor in one form or another. And Nine...I think the wonderful thing about him is just how complex he is. He's angry, bitter, grieving, but also fundamentally hopeful and loving at the same time. I don't think it may be a stretch to say that Eleven took some influences from Nine as well as Two (because Matt Smith just adores Two. :3) and Ten (of course). But back on topic.
+ While we're on the subject, Nine pleading with the nanogenes earlier to figure out the DNA connection between Nancy and Jamie. "Just give me a day like this." Honestly nearly set me off -- especially considering that I have moments like this too. Sort of a "Give me a day just once where everything that can go right will go right." It's one of those wonderful touches in DOCTOR WHO in general that speaks to the idea of...well, honestly, what being human is all about.
* And then, "Just this once, everybody lives!" (Fuck, this scene is setting off the fucking waterworks even now. Goddamn.) The look on Nine's face (just...fuck, Christopher Eccleston has one of the most beautiful smiles I've ever seen in my life. And I think for Nine it's all the more poignant -- hell, for the Doctor it's all the more poignant -- because in all honesty...there aren't many times he gets to be happy), the sheer joy in his voice -- it's almost infectious. And the damn music...
+ "Well, there is a war on. Is it possible you miscounted?" *Giggles* Also, earlier, Dr. Constantine asking why they were near railroad tracks, and Nine's response: "Cutbacks."
+ Nine's grin in Rose's direction after the "usually the first in line" line she has. Like I said, a lot of adorable Nine/Rose moments. :)
-Jack's goodbye before he goes to defuse the bomb. Also a bit of humor with "Love the T-shirt!" And his reminiscing about the friendly executioners. XD
-Jack becoming a member of the TARDIS crew.
-The ending, with Nine and Rose dancing. Just a sweet, hopeful, lovely ending. :) (Also a CMOF earlier with Rose complaining about the Doctor...kind of failing at the spinning-her-around part. XD And Nine's rather Adorkable "I can dance" moment as well. :)
So overall? Loved it. Definitely a must-see. And I think one of Moffat's best. Will have to wait and see on his other stuff, but right now? *This* is my favorite of his. :)
