I usually do the active voice, just because it's more immediate. The passive voice isn't that bad either; it has its uses, but there's something about the active voice that feels a bit more raw and immediate and such. I occasionally stray into the passive voice when it sounds a bit more poetic. So I guess it's just -- well, it depends on the needs of the story, really.
