What did you do in 2012 that you have never done before?
Actually saw a STAR WARS film in theaters. Participated in an AU Big Bang (and strained myself in terms of finishing the rest of the story in one day and then submitting it. Never. Again). Started posting more fic. Started working on my original fic after being blocked for ideas for quite a while. Got into Doctor Who and Star Trek. Saw a BATMAN movie in theaters. Went to sleepaway camp (not certain if I want to do it again because while I made some good friends there...there were some difficulties. Still, I quite liked it. A lot of great moments, like learning some archery, etc.). Got an iPhone (actually, my mom bought it for me if only for NOVA. It's come in handy a lot of times. :). Actually started getting shit done. Got into The Avengers. Spent more time on Dreamwidth. Voted.
Did you keep all of last years resolutions?
Well, in terms of sleep, not really. If anything, I think my sleep patterns were a lot worse than last year's, not helped by stress/general feeling of lousiness. Was definitely more proactive, I think. Started catching up with Clone Wars, which for the most part I'm liking. Bitching less and enjoying more...I think 2012!me could have used the whole "People are only as happy as they make up their minds to be" thing. It would have at least helped. Although I think some of the bitching didn't exactly help when I was going to some difficulties amongst some of my close friends, SOPA and all its friends, etc. Goddamn, I was just really unhappy this year. I need more happy in my life.
Have you any resolutions for next year?
Working on drafting them.
What countries did you visit?
None, really, sadly. I wish I could have, though.
What would you like to have in 2013 that you didn't have in 2012?
Some more happy, and more sanity. Also, a thicker skin.
What date in 2012 will remain etched in your memory?
The date of the Connecticut shootings.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
The AU Big Bang, voting for the first time, NaNoWriMo, etc.
What was your biggest failure?
Getting into fights with my friends, losing a few friends.
Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Ugh, yes. Getting sick while I was working on my AU Big Bang. Gorram miserable, really.
What was the best thing you bought?
My mom actually bought me a sketchbook to reduce some stress. I have a feeling I'm going to need that sketchbook. A lot.
Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Oh Jesus Christ, where do I start? The GOP/Tea Partiers, the Westboro Baptist Church trying to picket the funerals at Connecticut (seriously, guys, fuck you), the media in the aftermath of Connecticut for interviewing traumatized kids, some of my close friends at times, my brother, pretty much everyone who overreacted to Star Wars Kinect (seriously, I can get some of the technical complaints I heard about, but dancing Han? It's bizarre, but it's nothing really super-awful), the more rabid of Sherlock fandom's response to Elementary and the hatred directed towards Lucy Liu, etc. **
(Honestly, the most exposure I have from Sherlock Holmes is reading some of the illustrated versions of the books when I was a kid -- and coming close to having nightmares. And freaking the fuck out when I thought that Holmes was dead)
I think on the bright side, I might check out Elementary. At least the idea of a Holmesian genderswap sounds intriguing.
Where did most of your money go?
Not much, really. I mostly used iTunes cards.
What did you get really really really excited about?
The Hobbit. Also, Star Trek Into Darkness, and the Star Wars sequel trilogy (although not without some trepidation). Also, the news that Christopher Eccleston is going to be the villain in Thor 2. In the words of Futurama:
Yep...that excited. :)
What songs will always remind you of 2012?
A helluvalot of Florence + the Machine, because I'd just recently gotten into it.
Compared to this time last year are you fatter or thinner?
I think I'm fine.
Compared to this time last year are you happier or sadder?
I'm both, really. Not as bad as last year, but at the same time, a lot worse.
Compared to this time last year are you richer or poorer?
The same.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Speaking my mind about things that bother me without being rude.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Getting into fights with people I care about.
How will you be spending Christmas?
Just hanging out with my family.
Which LJ users did you meet for the first time?
Oh Jesus, a helluvalot. Seriously, guys? To quote the Ninth Doctor, I'm so glad I met you. :3
Did you fall in love in 2012?
Nope.
How many one night stands?
Nope.
What was your favourite TV show?
Doctor Who, all the way. Clone Wars comes in a close second.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, not really. I had some falling outs with people close to me, but I don't think that counts as really hating them.
What was/were the best books you read?
The Hunger Games trilogy. 'Nuff said.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Florence + the Machine, Kamelot, "The Mystic's Dream" by Loreena McKennitt, and a lot more. And in terms of old nostalgia songs, "
Tenth Man Down", "
Bless the Child", and "
Ocean Soul" by Nightwish, "
City of Blinding Lights" by U2, and
"Before the Dawn" by Evanescence.
What did you want and get?
What did you want and not get?
What was your favourite film this year?
What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
Currently old enough to vote. Didn't get back home to celebrate my birthday until a day later, so in a way, I kind of celebrated my birthday twice. It was pretty fun both times, but at home -- it was just nice to see my family again, really.
What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
I dunno...I probably need a more peaceful year or something. And/or maybe trying new things.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Was in pajamas a lot of the times when I wasn't attending NOVA.
What kept you sane?
Talking with my friends, family, and therapist. Also, my writing.
Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
A lot of the DOCTOR WHO cast, overlapping with hero worship. Also, Tom Hiddleston. Because that man is pure undiluted win. :3
Which political issue stirred you the most?
Women's rights, SOPA, and a lot more.
Who did you miss?
The Nostalgia Critic, who's retired this year. Demo Reel is freaking awesome so far, but the Nostalgia Critic...well, I miss a lot of things about him. I miss his smile, I miss his outbursts (they're just really entertaining to watch), I miss his protectiveness of kids, I miss his silly moments, I miss his sad moments and his serious moments, I miss his sticking up for women, I miss his insightful moments, I miss his LOTR references...I just miss a lot of things about him, really. I still love Demo Reel, but really, the Nostalgia Critic...you were fantastic, Critic. Absolutely fantastic. And I'll miss you, as will we all:
There's a lot more moments I love, really, but I think these...these are some of my favorites. And I love these last two pics as well.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year?
Life lessons? Jesus, so many...but I think one thing that definitely stands out is that no matter how bad things get, they will get better. I didn't think that some of the bad things happening would get better, and yet they are, at least in a way. And in regards to beginnings and endings:
SARAH JANE SMITH: Some things are worth getting your heart broken for.
(ADDITIONAL QUESTION) Post a set of lyrics you think sum up 2012 for you:
Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play
And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues drawn
It's always darkest before the dawn
And I've been a fool and I've been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I'm always dragging that horse around
And our love is pastured such a mournful sound
Tonight I'm gonna bury that horse in the ground
So I like to keep my issues drawn
But it's always darkest before the dawn
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaaah
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah
I am done with my graceless heart
So tonight I'm gonna cut it out and then restart
Cause I like to keep my issues drawn
It's always darkest before the dawn
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back so shake him off
...
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope
It's a shot in the dark and right at my throat
Cause looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Well what the hell I'm gonna let it happen to me
-Florence and the Machine,
Shake It Out * Although personally, I would have liked it if Holmes had been the one who had been genderswapped. :) I know
fialleril suggested Freema Agyeman for Sherlock (for those curious, Martha fucking Jones:
http://stuffpoint.com/doctor-who/image/87342-doctor-who-martha-jones.jpg. One of my first companions, and one of my favorites. Rose is always My Companion, but Martha -- and Donna, and the others -- holds a special place in my heart). Which I think is brilliant. I mean, she's intelligent, she's gorgeous, she's a fantastic actress -- she'd pull off fem!Sherlock brilliantly.
