Comment on this post and I'll give you 7 things of your own, and you comment on them in your journal. And so on.
1: something that makes you angry
*Chuckles* I think it would be easier to name the things that *don't* make me angry. But I think things like Safari crashing on my iTouch (which is a minor annoyance, really), misogyny (and its distaff counterpart, of sorts, misandry), and Fan Haters are definitely a few of them. (But I think I'll save the whole Fan Haters rant for another time)
2: your favourite fandom character at the moment (any fandom)
In terms of Star Wars, Anakin Skywalker (who's surprised? :P). I think what I love about Anakin is the fact that he's not perfect -- I tend to identify more with the flawed characters than the more...sea-green pure characters, for lack of a better word. I don't want them completely degraded, but I don't want them completely free of flaws, because honestly? Flaws make for a better story. :) (Even if people off LJ may disagree...) I also like his loyalty to the ones he loves (which can be used against him, as Revenge of the Sith proves), his sense of humor (I say the meadow picnic scene is one of my favorites in Attack of the Clones if only because of this, especially his "hey, Padme -- watch this!" -- to paraphrase Nash -- stunt with the shaak, and the subsequent meadow romp. :3), his idealism and kindness (this is, after all, the boy who was more than willing to help complete strangers -- which led to Naboo's liberation in the process. Granted, it's downhill from there thanks to Palpatine's manipulations, but still...), his ingenuity/creativity (especially in terms of landing a flaming half of Invisible Hand safely), his bravery (taking on Dooku, for example), his friendship with Artoo and Threepio (it's obvious that, like Luke, he doesn't think of Artoo or Threepio as "just droids" -- he thinks of them as friends), his humility (especially in terms of never really taking credit for certain things, e.g. post-Invisible Hand, when he says, "This whole operation was your idea", i.e. "I wouldn't have gotten this far without you, Master"), his love for Padme (which makes Mustafar all the more heartbreaking, IMHO), his devotion to his mother, and, honestly? A whole lot more. True, he may have his flaws (misguided, naive and easily manipulated, maybe a touch of arrogance/cockiness), but then again, the prequels are, ultimately, about his fall. He's supposed to be flawed and tragic, and that's why he's one of my favorites. My other favorites are, basically, the entire cast of KOTOR II (because they're awesome), Bastila Shan from KOTOR (because, again, she's not perfect. That and she's incredibly brave, strong, kind, etc.), and from Tron Legacy, Sam Flynn, Quorra, Kevin Flynn, and Clu (the last one because of how complex he is. He's not doing what he's doing for the sake of being evil; he's doing it because he thinks he's doing the right thing. I always find villains who think they're doing the right thing more chilling than straight up For the Evulz villains -- although I like my share of those as well. :3).
And from Firefly, River Tam (also my current default icon). It helps that she's made of awesome. :3 Also love Kaylee, Jayne, Mal, Wash and the Operative -- the last one because, like Clu, he's not doing what he does for the hell of it; he's doing it because he thinks he's doing the right thing. Made worse/creepier (YMMV, naturally) considering that he's fully aware that what he's doing is wrong, but he feels he needs to do it if only to make way for a "world without sin" (as proved by this quote after Haven -- mostly going from memory):
OPERATIVE: I am a monster. What I do is evil -- but it must be done.
Made creepier/sadder/you pick considering it was after he basically did to Haven what Darth Malak did to Taris -- i.e. basically slaughtered everyone in the town (including Shepherd Book, who was trying to stop him) just because they sheltered Mal and company. And, of course, to find River.
It also helps (although YMMV) that he's also quite polite in his dealings as well -- his first scene in the film is him speaking with (and subsequently killing for his failure) Dr. Mathias (a.k.a. one of the guys who experimented on River -- poor girl. *Hugs River*) -- mostly via impaling him on the Operative's sword if only to give him a more "honorable death" for a man who created "great works". (And considering this is the same man who basically helped mind-rape River... *Shivers*) -- all the while reassuring Dr. Mathias that it was a good death, a man's death, and basically, that Dr. Mathias helped create some better worlds (i.e. tying into that whole "world without sin" concept). While we're on the subject of the Alliance in general -- jarredspekter/bloodrunsclear criticized Firefly/Serenity in the past for promoting the whole "evil empire" thing (as well as "mean-spirited" characters, which I personally disagree with. But that's neither here nor there), but here's the secret -- the Alliance isn't the typical evil empire. They're not trying to be "evil", per se -- if anything, they think they're doing the right thing. Unfortunately, their methods of "doing the right thing" mostly involve things like the infamous incident on Miranda that proved to be the origin of the Reavers. And what they did to River, of course. Both Firefly and Serenity (but especially Serenity) make the point that the Alliance isn't evil, per se -- just really misguided. (Hell, the Alliance even forms a bit of an Enemy Mine with Mal in Bushwhacked) For example, the teacher in River's flashback saying, "We're not here to teach [the worlds/The Independents/etc.] what to think. We just want to show them how." (If I can remember correctly) And the Operative's line, again:
THE OPERATIVE: The Alliance is not your evil empire. This is not your grand arena.
Granted, that doesn't stop them from being incredibly ruthless -- the Hands of Blue are proof of that. And to a slightly lesser extent, the Operative. I think that's what I like about Firefly and Serenity -- there's plenty of shades of gray.
#End Firefly fangirlism. I apologize for the ramble -- and if I got a few things wrong.
In terms of TGWTG and reviewers, my favorite is definitely Nash. Just because he's so quotable, and utterly hilarious. (Also, the Critic, Todd and the Chick)
3: your username
Previously left over from a bit of a project for English we had on Blogspot, i.e. discussing things on Blogspot. Which was awesome. :3 Got the username from Arwen's sword in the LORD OF THE RINGS movies, because I'm a huge nerd. :3
4: the last book you read
Sadly haven't read many books the past week -- mostly because my books are currently boxed up; we're remodeling the floors Wednesday. Oh man. :/ -- but I have caught up on CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE TEENAGE SOUL: ON LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP and the Amelia books by Marissa Moss -- which I already loved as a kid, but reading them now, I've definitely gained a new appreciation for them. You'll probably laugh, but they really do hold up, IMHO.
/credibility no doubt spirals. For the upteenth time. XD
5: do you prefer to listen to music, read a book or watch a movie and why?
I love all three, really. Watching a movie or reading a book when I'm stressed/down (or need some writing tips), and listening to music when I'm stressed/down or in need of inspiration. I'm flexible. :3
6: mornings:
Definitely grateful for spring break, because I can sleep in. :) And one reason I'm not looking forward to going back to school, because (*groan*) I can't.
7: a foreign language you would like to learn
Probably German or Russian. Alternatively, in terms of fandom, I'd definitely like to get back to learning Elvish. Elvish is awesome. :3
