i ADORE this moment...

what does/would bradford think? how does this moment fit into ian's healing? does this mean he's *all* better now, able to take this symbolism and relish it, truely have it be for his good?

Ian's never going to quite be all better. There was just too much damage there. But this is a major point. This is him claiming back his old life and relationship and begin comfortable enough to know that anything with Charlie is a good thing. And they don't tell Bradford until after it's done.
