Fandom Friday - Week 1
This idea comes from misskitten on Gateworld. She's been doing these Weekend Recs on her blog (which you should totally check out btw -- lots of fandom!), and I thought I'd like to do something similar. Mainly to get me posting again. And I always have so many things to say about this or that fandom. My Fandom Friday posts will give me a place to say little things that maybe don't deserve their own LJ post, but that I'd like to say all the same.
I don't yet know exactly where I'm going with this. Might drop the idea, might keep it. Will see how this goes. There is one thing I know I want to do with these weekly posts though, and that is to rec you SOMETHING. I don't really want to put limitations to what type of things I rec, or how often will I rotate fandoms. (Although, I will try to make it as varied as I can.) I'd like to rec one vid and one fic per week, but as I go by phase in those type of fandom expressions, it might bore you out. (I tend to read lots of fic in one fandom and then stop altogether and switch fandom. Repeat circle. But maybe these posts will help me branch out -- that'd be a good thing.) It might be only one fic or only one vid, or both. Or two of one and/or the other. It depends how tough the week was in the others aspects of my life.
So, here goes Week 1.
Up this week are a Sherlock fic (because I just started, and finished, Sherlock and OMG THE FEELINGS YOU GUYS) and a Castle vid.
REC 1: Sherlock Fanfic

Summary: 'The first time he saw it, John Watson thought he was losing his mind. Just four little words, spray-painted on the side of St. Barts: I believe in Sherlock.'
Timeline: Post-The Reichenbach Fall
There are so many sad post-Reichenbach stories. So many angry!John, sad!John, accepting!John. Fics were Sherlock comes back. John finds Sherlock, Sherlock finds John. I've read quite a few since finishing the series, and I will admit that I have a hard time finding any that rang true. There always seems to be a line that's not quite in character. I know how John reacts in the ACD books, but I can't really see the John in the TV Show reacting the same way. And that's the thing, I *don't know* how John will react. Anything could happen upon Sherlock's return.
But this fic does not deal with Sherlock's return. It deals with grief, and hope, mainly with hope. Not in the traditional way of hoping that Sherlock isn't dead, but more in the general meaning of the word. John's reaction to the situation is totally in character, and I love his voice in this piece.
REC 2: Castle Vid
Castle/Beckett - Coffee by xfchemist
This vid has always been one of my favourite Castle vids. It was made before season 4 and before the drastic change in the status-quo of their relationship, and that is one of the things that makes this vid so great. Season 1 to 3 offered us the growth of their friendship, their love, the spark that they shared. In this vid, we see it all from the point of view of those hot beverages they share throughout the episodes, and it just shows you how important the simplest things, such as bringing each other coffee on the tough days, are extremely important. It's only one aspect of the Castle/Beckett relationship, but it's an important one.
