filled with thorns - Magnus/Camille (PG I guess) themoonoversoho March 7 2016, 19:19:15 UTC
This got a way from me a bit prompt wise and doesn't really go anyway but...I hope you enjoy it anyway!

Her head is bowed but she is smiling.

His heart speeds up for the briefest of moments. A habit from decades earlier he knows and nothing more.

'Magnus' she purrs finally looking up at him through her lashes. 'I was hoping it would be you they'd send.'

She is still smiling, tight lips turn into a grin and she tilts her head to the side allowing her long hair to fall over one shoulder. He suddenly forgets what he's doing there. Forgets when he is, as if they have just seen each other the day before when in fact it's been decades. Or had it been a century. She always had a habit of clouding his senses.

'Can I get you a drink?' she asks rising from her seat.

'This isn't a social call.' he finally speaks.

'Because Magnus Bane never mixes business and pleasure.' she challenges moving effortlessly across the room. He moves out of her way just so to ensure that she won't brush against him. She catches it of course but continues in her stride.

'You've come empty-handed. You used to bring me gifts all the time, do you remember?' she asks, throwing a look over her shoulder to him.

'I remember' he nods. 'I thought I had to prove myself to you then. But I'm not here to impress you.'

She turns and smirks. 'But you are so very impressive. And apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks so or else The Clave wouldn't have you doing their dirty work. How happy they must be to have a pet warlock.'

'Only you could both compliment and insult in the same breath, Camille.' he almost laughs. 'And mean them both.'

She smiles again. 'So we have established that you are not here to impress me. I fear you may be here to threaten me.'

'I'm here to warn you.'

'There is little difference.'

'The shad-' he begins with a sigh.

'-The Lightwood girl' Camille interrupts. 'she was wearing my necklace.' She feigns confusion but he tone is accusing. 'Why was she wearing my necklace, Magnus?'

Magnus waves his hand dismissively. 'If it meant so much to you, you would not have lost possession of it in the first place.' he points out, tone just as accusing.

'Oh my darling, you of all people know life isn't that simple. We lose things all the time. But sometimes they come back to us.' She steps forward then and lays a manicured hand over his heart. It's a gentle movement, a gesture he doesn't recall her making when they were together. They were never gentle with each other.

He takes a step back but she doesn't follow. She never followed. 'Somethings deserve to be lost and remain so. Perhaps you did not take good enough care of it.'

'And you're so perfect?' Camille scoffs, moving out of his space. 'You are quick to forget yourself. And to forget that things I know. Oh, the stories I could tell! I wonder what your new friends would think of the fact that one of those gifts you used to bring me was shadowhunter blood. And he, sorry they would believe me. Because you're a monster just like me.' She smiles then as if getting pleasure from her words. 'And they all know it. They're just waiting for you to let the mask slip. But you don't have to wear a mask with me. I have seen the wickedness of your heart and it never frightened me.'

'Wickedness was all you saw.' Magnus counters defensively. 'But there was so much more. And went I told you how I felt, that I loved you, that I wanted us to be together forever, you mistook that for weakness. It was too good. And I knew then you'd never love me the way I loved you. Life is too long to live that way. So I left.'

'And yet here you are.' she folds her arms and raises an eyebrow in what can only be interpreted as a challenge. 'Like a waking dream.'

He doesn't bother to fight the mocking smile that breaks out on his face. 'Or a living nightmare.'
