I feel like this was never quite a show that had my heart in its hands, you know? I loved what it was doing with examination of a lot of tropes and meta-narratives, and cracked-out WTF moments. But it's hard to expect too much to come out of deconstruction, so I'm rarely disappointed. And the WTF quotient, I'm pleased to say, is higher than ever. Relatedly:
How connected do you feel the overall quality of the show is to the state of Ian Somerhalder's weave?
Extraordinarily. It is always hilarious, as is the show. fin.
I'm actually a bit worried in that it has gotten me invested past Bonnie and Damon, with Rebekah and Tyler.
(have I mentioned how much I love Helena Cain? My love for her is only surpassed by my obsession with Ellen Tigh tbh.)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! YES! I just re-watched Pegasus this week and will be watching the rest of the arc soon and oh my GOD this show, when it was good, it was oh so good. (Possibly this is why I am so emotionally distant from TVD? I think it was the first show I really mainlined after my big BSG watch. TALK ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT.)

So much this. Taking it for what it is - is actually the healthiest approach tbh. But, like you, I remain horribly invested in certain characters - it's got its claws in me and it won't let go until the end.
The Pegasus arc is just some of the most stunning television I've ever seen in my life. Rips me to pieces every time. I can imagine that coming to TVD after BSG might have numbed you to the horrors of this baby show because good grief, BSG SEASON FOUR. WHAT.
I'm really surprised at how much I'm enjoying Arrow tbh. I can't stand that superhero template, the whole grim-darque fetish does absolutely nothing for me but there are some redeeming qualities thank god.
