Smallville 30 Day Meme | Day Two: Favorite Teams - Heroes and Villains
Since my heart simply refuses to settle on who my Least Favorite Character is, I'm doing an easy one:
Day Two: Favorite Teams
Heroes: Justice Society of America
I may have my critiques of Absolute Justice because - um, Geoff Johns writes like a twelve year old on a sugar high sometimes. And let's face it, I could have my issues with this particular line-up they used for the Justice Society - way too many men (only Hawkwoman, Black Canary, Red Tornado (\o/), and Stargirl to break up the sausage fest. I included Inza on my picspam so it evens up a little more also who knows, maybe some of the members we didn't meet are women.) and kinda monochromatic but it is what it is. This ain't news. Nevertheless - seeing all of these characters, these heroes on whom I grew up was thrilling. It also helped that the show invoked a sense of nostalgia and grittiness with them that drew me in (many of us, I think).
Another fantastic thing was all the tiny details. Sandman/Wesley Dodds especially was the one who blew me away. The image of him slouched in front of his staticky television surrounded by flasks of cold coffee, clocks hanging from every wall, covering every surface; alarms ringing and bleeping -- all to keep him from sleeping and from dreaming. Also the actor had this look about him, haggard and tired and traumatized. He fascinated me in the way that Fate/Kent Nelson did, both of them really cursed with these abilities/identities, using them to fight for 'justice' or whatever, and paying such a high price for that. I don't know, if I had time, I would have been all over writing fanfiction for all these guys because damaged, broken, scarred people who stand for what's right under the weight of heavy burdens are some of my favorites. I would probably have been the only one to read it, lol.

Villains: Darkseid's Elite
We haven't gotten much of this crew yet and I almost picked the Suicide Squad - but since I don't really consider them 'villains' in the obvious sense of the word and I refuse to even think about the Injustice League, I had to go for these guys. Also, Granny Goodness, Mad Harriet, Lashina = my fangirl dream (despite dubiousness in the way they did things in "Abandoned"). Godfrey and Granny were genuinely disturbing, which is sometimes hard to pull off with characters that are so 'out there' but she, especially freaked me out with that cray-cray smile of hers. I'm excited to see where this is going to go and I hope we'll actually get some decent Desaad, Godfrey, Granny time as the season comes to a climax. Who knows though, there are a lot of eggs in the basket for the writers, wonder how they'll handle it all.
Next up: either least favorite character/favorite + least favorite villain arc/favorite one-shot villain/favorite character arc! Too many choices and since I'm deviating from the actual meme path and making up my own as I go along... eh. Does anyone have some particular they'd want me to do and then I could do those? Let me know!
