It's Sunday night and actually have enough energy to update a bit. The world may be coming to an end.
It's the slow season at Knotts, so I'm down to only working 2-3 days a week. Not a good thing. So when my tutoring boss called I accepted a position as a substitute teacher for the program. It's money coming in on days when I'm not otherwise working. I picked up my paperwork on Sunday.
Monday and Tuesday, as usual, I worked in the Gallery. It so is the slow season. We're almost caught up on cleaning and re-organizing. I'm actually getting caught up on simple costume repairs. I was really tired both nights after though.
Wed. was errand day. Car stuff-tires rotated, new battery, etc. Found out my car needs about $400 worth of work. Sigh. Ran errands with my mom. Had food with my son. Came home and collapsed in a heap.
Thursday was a bit trippy. My day started with taking my mom to the doctors. She's actually doing pretty well. Especially for an 81 year old. That done we flew up the freeway to have lunch with my mother-in-love and her daughter, Monica. With all the drama in the family recently, I was fearing for verbal spewing. We got lucky and the topics of conversation stayed safe. Mom and I both got lucky on our Christmas presents. I got home in time to fix an old family dinner favorite and both my kids came over. Good times!
Friday was my day to do stuff around the house. Call it an early spring cleaning. We have a series of storms due in starting on Sunday, so there was stuff that needed to happen, like me working on re-organizing the garage. I'm pretty happy with how much I got done.
Saturday was busy. Early in the day I went with my daughter and Tristi to the garment district in Downtown LA. I was finally able to put together enough money to buy fabric for a kirtle. For those who don't know, a kirtle is a one piece dress worn by women during the target year of my faire group-1450. Think of the long dresses worn in Robin Hood or King Arthur movies. It took us a while, but we did find everything we needed at reasonable prices. We saw folks we know from Southern faire out shopping too.
After a short pause to eat, I was back working on the garage and stuff. Eventually mom and I went over to Tod's house for my son's graduation party. It was a bit surreal. The party was at the home of my ex. His wife was happily playing hostess and greeted my mom warmly. Since she spent the evening of my daughter's party a year ago snubbing my mom it was a pleasant change. The party was a mix of family and my son's friends. The two groups really didn't mix. The person catering the party was an ex-boyfriend of mine who is an amazing chef. I took mom home early (she's normally in bed by 7) then came back. I had fun, but it was a long day, so I left fairly early.
Today I got more stuff done, then went to work for a closing shift. I haven't worked on Sunday for a while, but I was covering for another woman who is now out of medical. As the weather service predicted, soon after I clocked in the rain started. They let me off a half hour early. I think there were maybe 15 guests left in our part of the park.
This coming week will be busy, sort of. I'm scheduled to work Monday, Tuesday and Sat. Since it's supposed to rain thru Sat. I have no idea if I'll get to work any of my shifts. Luckily I have much to do at home. Ravenwood has a Board meeting on Sunday. That has the potential to be highly entertaining.
It's been a good week. I'm a little down because I just found out that a friend from Bible College days has just passed away due to cancer. When I saw her earlier this year she had already been diagnosed. I'm glad Diana is with the Lord. No pain and she is worship dancing for the Lord in person now. But the rain that's pelting my roof is a bit symbolic.
Time to get a bit or work done before sleep. I'm really hoping I don't have work tomorrow. Knotts in the rain is not fun. And if I'm not at work I am going to try to see Avitar!
