Christmas 2009

This turned out to be a quiet, but nice Christmas. In many ways I felt like a calm island in the midst of a lot of chaos.

Christmas Eve I worked. Luckily I had a morning shift and was out early enough to mostly finish the huge pile of stuff I needed to do for today. Work was odd, but cool. Boo on the Knotts bosses who decided to have the company paid free meal moved from Christmas Eve to the day before (when I wasn't working) at the last minute. Mom decided to make dinner, since I was busy wrapping stocking presents and such. Somehow I wasn't surprised when it wasn't ready until after Church had started. I was sort of expecting that.
Eventually I went over to my son's house for the Annual Book Exchange. It's a fun party and I got to hang out with fun people and laugh a lot. Came home at a reasonable hour, but stayed up wrapping.
I got to sleep in a bit Christmas morning, rather a change. Since the kids weren't coming over until later I was able to take my time. I fixed a nice breakfast for mom and I, finished the last of the wrapping and even had time to do a bit of cleaning. It appears that my vacuum may have gone to the island of not-working-well appliances. Sigh. I'll work on it a bit, but I've already cleaned out or fixed what I can in the last few weeks. It may already be time for a new one.
Dinner went well. I oversaw most of it. I love my mom, but besides baking, her cooking skills are not what they were. With the kids over we finally opened our presents. My family loves me. Mom got a bunch of stuff, but she deserves it. I think everyone was happy with what they got. I know I was.
My friend Susan was delayed, but she did finally make it over. The candy cane ice cream she brought over was really yummy.
Back to work for me tomorrow. Closing shift over at the Gallery. Unfortunately, for the second day in a row I'm congested and have a sore throat at times. I really hope it's just allergies.

I did see the new Chipmunks movie. If you liked the first one you should like the second. I did. It's a lovely bit of fluff. Now to find time (and money) to go see Avitar and Young Victoria.
