Time for an update! The seasons are slowly starting to change, and, naturally, so is my life-or at least my work schedule.
The crazy-busy of work has slowed down. The Park no longer has summer hours (10-10). Whew! I had closing shifts all last week, but instead of leaving around 10:30, I was out of work around 8:30 p.m. Much nicer! Thursday, of course, was crazy-busy still. But the rest of the week at work wasn't bad.
Except for the heat! Mostly it's been a mild summer, which me in my polyester costume appreciate. Not this week. I find it a bit ironic that the first week of the shortened hours at the Park we have 100 degree temperatures. Very difficult to work under those conditions. My brain starts to turn to mush.
Unfortunately, with the heat came the brush fires. It's just part of life here. In the late summer/fall seasons, when we get a Santa Anna weather condition we're likely to get wild fires. There's a bad one north of me. I'm far enough away that it only affects my allergies, but that's enough. I've stayed indoors as much as I can.
I mentioned work changing. I counted the other day and only 4 of us working the Gallery have full availability. Everyone else has other jobs or is in school. So we have a lot of people free to work weekends, but not so many available on Weekends. So I had Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off this week. It was rather heavenly.
Friday I had hoped to have friends over for a game night. So I've been cleaning my front room. The evening ended up only my kids and I, but we still had a lot of fun.
Saturday my daughter came over early (her house is not air conditioned) and we worked on various sewing projects. In the early evening we headed up to Monrovia for dinner and a show with my mother-in-love and Monica, her daughter. Although Monica and family live in Texas, she flies out here a lot to help her mom run her business, Creative Woman (www.wizardofbras.com). They headed out to Las Vegas today for a trade show. Dinner was lovely and then we saw a community theater version of "The Importance of Being Ernest." My lungs weren't happy about being around all that smoke (where we were isn't too far from two of the fires), but it was a fun evening.
Today, after running errands and such, my daughter and I drove down to Vista to drop off Peter's cast iron and some other stuff. We've had it since Irvine Lakes faire where he cooked Ravenwood such a lovely meal. After that we "crashed" a Ravenwood ladies' sewing party. Fun. I really enjoyed the drive up and back-yay for ocean views!
I have a full schedule for work next week. For the first time in a while I have shift as an Extra. Sunday I'll start two weeks working graveyard shift doing inventory. About a week and a half after inventory is done Haunt starts again. Whee! Hopefully somewhere in there will be cooler weather.
I have some new teaching job appications out. Prayer would be appreciated.
